๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ผ Today, Botswana celebrates 60 years of independence.

To mark this historic milestone alongside the people of Botswana, Aranda proudly unveils the Botswana 60th Shawl.

Inspired by the traditional Mogagolwane and Setswana ceremonial attire, the shawl brings together rich cultural heritage and modern textile craftsmanship.

Its white base and distinctive blue hues draw inspiration from the colours of the Botswana flag, with blue symbolising P**a โ€“ rain, prosperity and abundance. More than a shawl, it carries a story of life, hope, peace and unity, celebrating the values and aspirations of the people of Botswana.

With the Botswana 60th Shawl, Aranda continues its tradition of innovation, weaving cultural meaning into modern textile excellence. Staying true to the heritage of the Botswana blue shawl, each piece carries a specially sewn commemorative label, marking this historic occasion.

A timeless tribute to Botswanaโ€™s 60 years of independence.

๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ผ P**a!

The colourful Shweshwe fabric of Southern Africa was the inspiration behind this vibrant throw. Named after 19th Century Sotho King, Moshoeshoe 1, Shweshwe is the quintessential fabric of Southern Africa.

Traditionally, the fabric is worn by newly married Xhosa women, known as makoti, and also married Sotho women.

Today the cloth has become multicultural across the continent. The beautiful patterns and designs are created for a wide number of occasions, such as traditional ceremonies and weddings, as well as playing a large role in contemporary fashion.

This year, Our Aranda Basotho brand ambassador Palo Mokoailane Ernzo celebrates his 50th birthday, marking over a decade as an official ambassador for Basotho Heritage Blankets as well as the Aranda brand.

In honour of this milestone, we have created and manufactured a special blanket he named Thebe ea Nanabolela. The name of the blanket is inspired by the Basotho folk tale Thebe ea Nanabolela, meaning โ€œDinosaurโ€™s Shield.โ€

The story tells of twin brothers, Masilo and Masilonyane, who went to initiation school. Upon completion, Masilo refused to return home unless he was given Thebe ea Nanabolela. It was their sister Thakane's bravery that ultimately brought what his brother wised for.

The story reflects the values of bravery, sacrifice, responsibility, and the protection of family and community

More than a blanket, this design tells the story of the Basotho nation.

At its centre stands King Moshoeshoe I, surrounded by every monarch who has led the Kingdom of Lesotho, including the current King, King Letsie III. It also honours the legacy of Queen Mofumahali Mantsรฉbo Seeiso, the only queen to have ruled the nation.

Featuring the iconic Mokorotlo, the Basotho shield, and the official Lesotho Bicentenary (200 Years) woven label, this blanket is a tribute to a proud heritage and a united people.

Inspired by King Moshoeshoe I's philosophy that there is unity in diversity, this blanket celebrates the history, resilience, and enduring spirit of the Basotho nation.
