BISEXUALITY IS NOT CONFUSION. BIPHOBIA IS NOT ACCEPTANCE.🩷💜💙

This Bisexual Awareness Week, we are challenging more than myths — we are challenging the discrimination that allows bisexual people to feel invisible, questioned and excluded, even within LGBTQIA+ spaces.

Bisexuality does not have to be 50/50. Being in a relationship does not erase someone’s identity. Attraction to more than one gender is valid. And being perceived as straight does not mean someone is protected from stigma — sometimes it means their identity is being erased.

And this matters for health too. When people fear judgement, rejection or having to constantly prove who they are, it can make it harder to seek support, speak openly about sexual and mental health, or feel safe in healthcare and community spaces.🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

Our LGBTQIA+ movement cannot demand acceptance from society while reproducing exclusion within our own community. There is no liberation in making another q***r person prove that they belong.🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

This week, we choose visibility over erasure, education over stereotypes and community over exclusion. Bisexual people belong. Full stop. 🏳️‍🌈🩷💜💙

This Bisexual Awareness Week, we are going beyond visibility. We are challenging the stereotypes that continue to follow bisexual people — even inside LGBTQIA+ spaces.

Being bisexual does not mean someone is undecided. It does not mean they are more likely to cheat. Being in a relationship does not suddenly make them straight or gay. And bisexual people should never have to constantly prove that they are q***r enough to belong.🩷💜💙

For bisexual people living in rural communities, townships and small towns, that pressure can be even heavier. Sometimes there is already limited access to safe q***r spaces, information and support — and then, even within the few spaces that exist, bisexual people can still experience judgement, exclusion or erasure.🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

That is why this week matters.

Visibility must include bisexual people.
Safe spaces must include bisexual people.
Our advocacy must include bisexual people.
Our community must include bisexual people.

From 16–23 September, Colour Me Foundation chooses to listen, learn, challenge harmful assumptions and make bisexual experiences visible.🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

Because you should not have to explain your identity before your community respects it.

On 03 October 2026, Mahikeng becomes that meeting place.

Come early for the conversations and community film screening, then stay as we turn the day into a celebration.❤️💃🏾

So this week, we don't measure progress only by how far we have come. Sometimes progress is choosing, once again, not to disappear.

Take up your day. Take up your opportunities. Take up your future.
