OUR WARD MATTERS IN ACTION
Monday, 21 September | Professionalism at Its Best
Another day on the ground with Our Ward Matters — and today was all about the small details that make a big difference.

Raasblaar Triangle
At the Raasblaar Triangle, along President Mbeki Drive and Raasblaar Avenue, our team gave the road island a completely new look.
We cut the grass neatly and then brought out the spades to remove the sand and grass that had grown into the road all the way around the island.
This is a very busy road, and keeping the island neat and clearly defined makes a visible difference.

Koorsboom Avenue
Our second team worked at the corner of Klopper and Koorsboom Avenue, around the Koorsboom Substation.
We cut the grass around the substation and removed the grass that had grown into the road along Koorsboom Avenue.
Our team also cleaned around the stormwater drains and opened them up. One of the drains was found to be completely blocked — something that needs attention.
We then tackled the STOP street, removing sand and small stones that had accumulated in the middle of the road. There was so much debris that it could potentially create a hazard for motorists.

The Hardest Work Is Often Done With a Spade
Cutting grass is one thing — but removing years of sand, soil and grass from roads, islands and kerbs by hand with spades is hard, physical and time-consuming work.
But when the team finishes, you can see the difference immediately.

That is professionalism. That is consistency. That is Our Ward Matters in action.

Every week, Our Ward Matters is on the ground — cleaning, debushing, cutting grass, removing illegal dumping, maintaining open spaces and helping create cleaner, safer and more cared-for communities.

But we cannot do this alone.

OUR WARD MATTERS IN ACTION

Wednesday, 16 November | Street Pole & Traffic Sign Restoration

Another day on the ground with Our Ward Matters and Cllr Tanya Rothman.
Today, our team focused on restoring streetlight poles, road signs and STOP signs in the Cuckoo, Rivers, Bokmakierie and Helen Joseph areas.

We started by removing the rust from the poles, cleaning the surfaces properly and then applying a fresh coat of paint. The difference is something residents can see immediately.
This is not just about making things look better. Well-maintained road signs and STOP signs help improve visibility and contribute to safer roads and neighbourhoods.

Tuesday, 15 September Helen Joseph Project
Our Ward Matters continued the Helen Joseph Project and there is still plenty of work to be done.
Our team worked on both sides of Helen Joseph, including the road island at the corner turning into Arend Road and the large green open space next to it.

On the residential side, we cleaned and cut back the overgrown areas. We also noticed that individuals selling rakes, brooms and other items had their personal belongings placed against the walls of residents' houses. These are issues we continue to take note of as we work through the area.

Around BP Safari and McDonald's, the area is now neat and clean. We continued debushing and cutting the grass right up to the residents' houses, including the area where fires are made in the evenings.
One of the hardest and most time-consuming jobs is removing grass and weeds from the road, road islands and sidewalks. It takes physical hard work, spades and plenty of time — but our team keeps going.

After the hard work with the spades and brushcutters, we finished by using the blower to clean up the area properly.

OUR WARD MATTERS IN ACTION
Monday, 14 November | Helen Joseph Project
Our Ward Matters continues the Helen Joseph Project.
Today, our team continued from K**k Street and Helen Joseph, moving over the bridge with spades and brushcutters.

We removed grass from the road island and cut the overgrown grass along the side of the road, working our way towards Arend Road, opposite BP Garage Safari, where we finished for the day.
But once again, our team came across a serious problem — illegal dumping along the sides of the road.

Several refuse bags were also found opposite BP Safari. These areas cannot simply be cleaned once and forgotten. They need ongoing maintenance, and our community needs to take responsibility for keeping them clean.

Every bag we remove, every piece of grass we cut and every area we restore makes a difference to visibility, safety and pride in our Ward.
We will continue doing our part. We ask residents, businesses and the community to stand with us and help us keep moving forward.

Thursday, 10 September
Our Ward Matters — Maintaining Our Community, Protecting Our People
Our Ward Matters was back on the ground on Thursday, continuing with the work that we do week in and week out.
Our team split up to tackle two important areas.
Along the road island near Bergsig, in Helen Joseph Avenue towards K**k Street, our team worked with spades, removing weeds, overgrown grass and the sand that had built up on the island.
It is hard work, but maintaining these areas makes a difference. A clean and well-maintained road island contributes to the overall appearance of the community and helps keep our streets safer.
At the same time, our other team was working in Kameelboom Avenue, opposite Wendy House Pre-School, cutting the open veld towards the substation.
This area is particularly important because it is right next to a pre-school and residential properties. Keeping the veld cut back improves visibility and safety for parents, children and residents, while also helping to reduce the risk of veld fires.
For Our Ward Matters, maintenance is a priority.
It is not enough to clean an area once and move on. We need to come back, maintain the progress and continue looking after our communities.
Clean. Safe. Maintained.
That is the Rustenburg we want to help build.
