MAKE DESIGNING FUN AGAIN
Let’s be real designing isn’t always fun, especially when you’re just starting out.

I’ve been learning that the hard way.

I run a creative agency startup. No big-name clients. No fancy portfolio. Just a few months in the game.

But in that short time, I’ve learned a few things:

· I can create basic designs.
· I know my way around different design software.
· I can (barely) sell my services.
· I’ve got my foot through the door.

Sounds like progress, right? But here’s the thing—the design world can be brutal.

Many experienced designers believe you’re not a “real designer” unless you:
· Have a deep understanding of design principles.
· Master Adobe Premium Suite.
· Build a strong portfolio with years of experience.

If you don’t check all those boxes? You’re not a designer.

As a newbie, that’s daunting. It feels like you need constant validation.

I’ve posted my work in Facebook groups, social media pages, and WhatsApp statuses, only to get a handful of reactions… or none at all.

Once, I saw a comment that said, "Canva designers make me sick."

That one stung.

But here’s what I’ve realized: Some of your best work will come from the designs others call ‘unacceptable.’

· Maybe you don’t fully understand design principles yet.
· Maybe you don’t use Adobe software.
· Maybe experienced designers don’t rate your work.

It doesn’t matter.

Criticism will always be there. Your job is to take the hits, keep learning, and keep improving.

The more experience you gain, the more the narrative changes.

The same people who ignored your work will start saying:

“Good job.”
“Amazing design.”
“I want to work with you.”

Your superpower is collecting experience points.

So keep going. Keep designing. Keep getting better.

The fun will come. 🚀

One of the most confusing things that happened to me not long ago.

You're doing what everyone else is doing.

Since i started on this design journey, all i ever see is rules and regulations on how we should design

Theories and principles, we should follow.

But design can be freer than that

Unfortunately, alot of people don't do that.

I get it in our industry, functionality, commercialism or even technical skills is what is expected..

But creativity, aesthetics appeal and emotional resonance can be just as important..

In business profit is king, no client will accept your creativity if it costs them money,

That's the hard truth.

But instead of just confining yourself to design principles, and doing what everyone else is doing.

Take those risks, seek to be different. It might suck at first, ridiculed but you building experiences and shaping your own voice.

Doing whatever you want might just be what clients are looking for.

The humble computer expert

Zaks, a calm computer repair expert, who has been running a small shop for years now

His skills are second to none when it comes to repairing computers.

When i first approached him, he was running ads on Facebook, promoting his services.

The graphics he used were mostly fixed computer pictures, and that was it.

I reached out, and made him aware that just sharing pictures online is not enough to attract your ideal client

Ultimately he was making the same mistake as most of us

He knew he needed something different, but wasn't aware where to start: how do i make logo, how can i create a business flyer, what about a website,

He asked

With no answers, he continued doing the same thing over and over again

Something had to change

And that's where i came in. I offered to create graphics for Zaks to promote his services. Lift the weight of his shoulders

A complete Branding Package was the offer

Even though he was excited at first that excitement soon died down

He expressed his financial difficulties and suggested maybe at a later stage

We kept in touch with him sending texts like "don't worry brother i still need that business flyer and logo"

Very humble and cool guy

That's why i decided to make him a simple business flyer and gave it to him for FREE

He didn't believe it at first and insisted he can't accept it. Nothing is ever free he said.

I insisted back

Start your business

Probably you have seen those social media posts of people making thousands with their businesses

I'm sure you must have felt, why not me, why can't i be like other people

You would switch positions with them at any given moment. BUT YOU CAN'T

Well i feel the same way!!

You and I cannot wait to be saved.

That idea you have needs action.

Just think about it!

Just Start and if you consistent enough maybe you and I will get to work together.

But easier said than done

Staying focused on the vision helps
But is fun nonetheless.

And that's the secret, if you not having fun and enjoying what you doing then what's the point.
