Thousands of South Africans receive Certificates of Compliance every year, yet an alarming number of consumers remain entirely unaware of their legal right to a safe installation, the mechanism to report unsafe work, or who to contact when a contractual dispute arises.
A standard Notice of Rights integrated into the official framework would fundamentally change consumer protection. We are calling for the official inclusion of a standard Notice of Rights on Annexure 1 of the Electrical Installation Regulations.
You should not need to be an inspector to understand your safety documentation. Stand with us to make consumer transparency a regulatory standard. Sign the national petition.

Your Certificate of Compliance proves structural adherence to regulations, but does it explain your rights as a consumer? Most homeowners are never explicitly informed about their ongoing responsibilities, who is truly accountable for long-term electrical safety, or where to report immediate compliance concerns.
We have developed a proposed Notice of Rights to bridge this gap, and we are asking South Africans for direct feedback. Would this information have helped you navigate your last installation?
Review the proposed notice and complete our short survey to share your perspective. Help us build a more transparent electrical compliance system.

We return to the fundamental contradiction of our campaign: if a document fining you can clearly state your consumer options, a document certifying the safety of your household must do the same.
Do not allow compliance to remain a one-sided conversation dominated by technical jargon. Property buyers, developers, and everyday citizens deserve an accessible roadmap to recourse and safety management.
Our final push for signatures is underway. If you believe transparency should be an uncompromised standard in South African infrastructure, sign the petition now.

The data from our public consultation confirms a stark reality: South African consumers feel left without guidance by the current compliance framework. Look at the official documents you interact with daily: traffic fines and court summonses seamlessly outline consumer rights and legal frameworks. The electrical COC remains a glaring exception.
Let us change this standard to favor transparency, consumer fairness, and stronger local communities. By adding a mandatory Notice of Rights to the Electrical Installation Regulations, we ensure that every homeowner is protected from sub-standard work.
