Another Friday, another real-life story worth telling.πŸ’•

23-year-old Juliaan lives on Jakkalsvlei farm in Clanwilliam and is eight months pregnant with her second baby, a baby boy. For families in remote farming communities, getting to healthcare isn't always easy β€” long distances, limited transport, and cost all get in the way.

That's where the Pebbles Project Driscoll's Mobile Health Clinic comes in, bringing check-ups, preventative care and health education directly to the farm.

"The mobile clinic has been such a big help for me, especially during my pregnancy," Juliaan says. "The nurse working in the clinic is very knowledgeable and she helped me to feel prepared for the arrival of my baby." πŸ’›

Through the Maternal Health Initiative, Juliaan attended workshops on healthy eating, warning signs during pregnancy, and the birthing process, plus three check-ups to monitor her progress. She even received a Baby Box filled with essentials for her and her baby boy.

"It is so wonderful and convenient for me to have my check-ups and have the mobile clinic come to me on the farm."

Support, close to home, every step of the way. 🌱

πŸš—πŸ’› This week's is dedicated to W**e Affair Scandinavia β€” a partner whose generosity has made a real difference across our programmes.

In 2023, W**e Affair Scandinavia gifted us a Volkswagen Caddy, transforming transportation for the Pebbles team and the children we serve. From getting practitioners to farms to making sure children can reach the support they need, this vehicle has been on the road making impact happen every single day.

Then in 2025 β€” contributing towards teacher salaries at the Pebbles Academy, helping ensure our educators are supported so they can keep showing up for the children who need them most. 🍎

Thank you, W**e Affair Scandinavia, for showing up for our team, our teachers, and our children β€” not just once, but again and again. 🌱

Meet the faces behind The Pebbles Project! πŸ’›

This incredible team shows up every day with heart, hustle, and a whole lot of passion for the work we do. Some have been here since day one, others are celebrating 5, 10, even 20 years.

*(Not every team member could be there for the photo β€” but you're just as much a part of this family! )

❀️ Know It. Spot It. Act. | World Heart Day – 29 September

This World Heart Day, we’re raising awareness about cardiovascular health and the importance of taking action to protect your heart β€” because sometimes, heart disease can hide in plain sight. Don’t miss a beat.

Knowing your heart health starts with understanding your numbers. Regularly checking your blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels can help you identify potential risks early.

Small, everyday choices can also make a meaningful difference. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week, enjoy a balanced and nutritious diet, manage stress, and avoid to***co.

It’s also important to *know the warning signs of a cardiac emergency*, recognise when someone may need urgent help, and understand the basics of CPR. Acting quickly can make a life-saving difference.

This World Heart Day, let’s use our hearts for action β€” for ourselves, our families and our communities. ❀️

We told you we'd keep sharing these β€” here's this Friday's impact story πŸ“£.

At just 20 years old, Portia has already faced more loss than most people experience in a lifetime. She lost her father at six, then her two older sisters, and shortly after finishing high school, her mother too.

With no immediate family nearby, Portia moved to Stellenbosch to live with her aunt on a Pebbles partner farm. Through that connection, she was introduced to the Pebbles Youth Development Programme (YDP) β€” and a new chapter began.

Portia has always loved hospitality and baking, and dreams of building a career in it. Portia has been gaining hands-on experience through the Pebbles Recycled Soap Project, learning to make soap from recycled hotel products β€” and now selling it in her own community. 🧼✨

"Pebbles builds people up. When you feel broken and without hope, that is when they step in and help you rebuild. They encourage you not to give up on your purpose and your dreams."

We can't wait to see where Portia's journey takes her next. πŸ’›

🌟 This week's shines a light on proud supporters of our Early Care and Education Programme (ECEP)!

The ECEP supports children from conception to age five through two sub-programmes β€” the First Thousand Days (FTD) Programme (0–2.5 years) and the ECD Programme (2.5–5 years) β€” delivered right on Pebbles' partner farms.

Why does this matter? Farms are often far from town with limited transport, meaning many children would otherwise miss out on early learning altogether.

Through ECEP, children get quality care and education close to home β€” plus practitioner training, health and dental care, nutrition support, and so much more.

The programme also empowers women on farms, training them as qualified ECD and FTD Practitioners so they can build careers within their own communities. πŸ’›

In 2025 alone:
βœ… 675 children supported through the ECEP
βœ… 32 ECD centres across Pebbles' partner farms
βœ… 38 dedicated ECD Practitioners delivering care and learning

None of this happens without partners like DG Murray Trust. Thank you for investing in the earliest, most critical years of a child's life. 🌱

Happy Heritage Day from all of us at Pebbles Project! πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦πŸ’›

🏫 A little glimpse into Pebbles Academy, tucked away in the beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde Valley near Hermanus. 🌿 Academy Hemel-en-Aarde Education Project

What a privilege to call this farm home for our primary school! From our classrooms to our sandpit for athletics training, to a netball court on slightly uneven grass β€” we make it work, because every learner deserves a place to grow, play, and learn. πŸ’›

When the local government primary school in the area closed in 2019 due to a lack of funding, children from surrounding farming communities were left without a school. Pebbles Project stepped in and built Pebbles Academy from the ground up β€” now registered with the Western Cape Education Department, offering education from Grade R to Grade 7.

Beyond the classroom, learners receive daily transport to and from school, plus breakfast, lunch and two snacks a day through our Nutrition Service. We also offer library access, computer literacy, sports, leadership development, social work support, dental care and more β€” because education is about the whole child, not just academics.

This school has heart, community, and a whole lot of determination. 🌱
