"The Scientific Basis of Spiritualism", written by the American poet, journalist, and editor Epes Sargent.This specific copy is the Sixth Edition, published in 1891 in Boston by Colby & Rich, Publishers. Epes Sargent (1813–1880) was a prominent advocate of the Spiritualist movement later in his life. He dedicated much of his time to defending Spiritualist phenomena and attempting to show they could be studied under scientific and physical conditions. The book argues that Spiritualism is rooted in verifiable psycho-physical facts rather than blind faith. It covers topics such as clairvoyance, independent writing (pneumatography), somnambulism, and testimonies from contemporary scientists who investigated mediums.
