World Patient Safety Day | 17 September

Patient safety is not just about preventing harm, it’s about ensuring every patient receives appropriate, responsible and patient-centred care throughout their healthcare journey.

For chiropractors, patient safety begins before treatment takes place.

It means taking a thorough history, performing an appropriate clinical examination, establishing a working diagnosis, obtaining informed consent and developing a management plan based on the individual patient.

It also means recognising when chiropractic care may not be appropriate and when further investigation, referral or co-management with another healthcare professional is needed.

As primary-contact healthcare practitioners, chiropractors have an important responsibility to assess, diagnose, manage and refer appropriately, always placing the needs and safety of the patient at the centre of clinical decision-making.

This World Patient Safety Day, CASA reaffirms its commitment to promoting safe, ethical and evidence-informed chiropractic care in South Africa.

World Breastfeeding Week: It Takes a Village to Support a Breastfeeding Mother

This year’s theme, “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start: Strengthen What Works,” reminds us that every mother supported, every baby breastfed, and every community that champions breastfeeding is investing in a healthier, more sustainable future.

When we think about supporting breastfeeding, it’s easy to picture a lactation consultant helping with latch or positioning. While professional guidance is incredibly valuable, support comes in many forms. Sometimes it’s practical. Sometimes it’s emotional. Often, it’s simply knowing someone is there to say, “You’re doing a wonderful job.”
