CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION EXTENDS HEALTH WORKERS’ VERIFICATION DEADLINE
Sept 4-2026
The Civil Service Commission has extended the deadline for verification of applicant details for the recruitment of 2,600 health workers from September 11 to October 9, 2026, following concerns raised by applicants over the limited time and logistical challenges associated with the exercise.
Civil Service Commission Chairperson Dr. Choolwe Beyani said the verification exercise, which commenced a day later than initially scheduled due to the declaration of September 1 as a public holiday for the Presidential inauguration, was intended to ensure that information captured in the recruitment database accurately reflected the applications received.
Dr. Beyani explained that the exercise would allow applicants to confirm the accuracy and completeness of their personal details, academic and professional qualifications, positions applied for, professional registration information where applicable, and supporting documentation submitted with their applications.
He clarified that the verification exercise was not mandatory, saying applicants who were confident that their submitted information was accurate and complete and had received a ZAMPOST text message confirming that their applications had been dispatched to their preferred districts could choose to forego the exercise without being disadvantaged in the recruitment process.
Dr. Beyani said the Commission had taken the concerns raised by applicants into consideration, particularly the financial and logistical difficulties faced by those required to travel long distances to provincial and district health offices, prompting the extension of the verification period.
He urged applicants who wished to verify their details to take advantage of the extended period and follow the guidance provided through the Commission’s official channels, while calling on Provincial and District Human Resource Officers under the Ministry of Health to provide the necessary assistance.
The Commission Chairperson also disclosed that validation of documents for health worker volunteers was currently underway countrywide following President Hakainde Hichilema’s directive to recruit volunteers, adding that the public would be updated once all the processes had been completed.
Dr. Beyani reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to conducting recruitment into the Civil Service in a fair, transparent, credible and accessible manner, while stating that information on the total number of applications received would be released in due course.

Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana has attributed the increase in Social Cash Transfer beneficiaries from 616,468 in 2021 to 1,555,840 currently to prudent utilisation of public resources and debt restructuring which created fiscal headroom for social spending, noting that foreign reserves now stand at 6.5 billion United States dollars and that 90 percent of the budget would have gone to debt servicing without restructuring.

FDD Provincial Leaders Protest Alleged Marginalisation in Tonse Alliance
Provincial leaders of the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) have expressed strong dissatisfaction with what they describe as continued sidelining and lack of consultation within the Tonse Alliance, particularly in relation to the BM8 team.
Speaking on behalf of provincial structures across the country, FDD Copperbelt Provincial Chairperson Smart Lungu said party officials at provincial level were frustrated by what they termed unilateral decision-making on critical alliance matters.
Mr Lungu said provincial leaders were concerned that important decisions were allegedly being made without consulting grassroots structures and ordinary party members.
“We are tired of being ignored and sidelined on critical matters within the alliance,” he said.
He alleged that some alliance members appeared to be receiving preferential treatment, leaving long-serving FDD members feeling excluded from key processes.
Mr Lungu further raised concern over the adoption process for parliamentary, mayoral and councilor candidates, claiming that some members affiliated to the BM8 team were allegedly being assured of adoption positions before the alliance leadership formally concluded deliberations.
“As an SPV, it is expected that our colleagues from the BM8 team would consult us on major issues such as the adoption process, but it appears they already have everything figured out,” he said.
The provincial leadership has since called for a transparent, free and fair adoption process devoid of undue influence.
The officials also urged the FDD leadership to push for what they described as a “quota system” in the allocation of seats within the alliance to ensure equitable distribution among partner parties.
“No one partner in a partnership must be seen to enjoy the lion’s share in the allocation of parliamentary, mayoral and councilor positions,” Mr Lungu said.
The provincial leaders warned that they would not remain silent while what they termed as loyal and long-serving party members were allegedly being sidelined in favour of “political tourists.”
They further called for an immediate review of the party’s engagement with its Tonse Alliance partners, particularly the BM8 team, while reaffirming their support for FDD president Chifumu Banda.
