Nakonde cop's hubby invited 'side chick' to collect K1,500 rent, police reveals
THE young woman who was stripped naked and mercilessly beaten in a viral video by a Nakonde police officer had allegedly gone to collect K1,500 in unpaid rentals from the officer's husband before the two were caught together in the couple's bedroom, police investigations have revealed.
Fresh police investigations have revealed that what initially looked like a case of a wife catching her husband's "sneaky link" in bed has a much longer history stretching back to October 2024.
According to Muchinga Province police commanding officer Kenneth Kang'ombe, the woman and Kennedy Simumba, husband to Inspector Diana Mukelebai, started dating after he told her that although he was married, his marriage had broken down because his wife could not conceive.
The 23-year-old woman, who is a single mother, accepted the relationship after Simumba promised that they would have children together and that he would support her financially.
Police disclosed that Simumba later started paying her GCE school fees and rented a house for her before asking her to move to Ntindi Village for what he described as security reasons.
However, after paying rent for some time, he stopped and left rental arrears amounting to K1,500.
Chete FM reports that, last Sunday, Simumba phoned the young lady and asked her to come to his house the following day so they could discuss the unpaid rent and assured her that his wife would not be home.
Upon arrival on the agreed day, Simumba invited her into the bedroom, asked her to undress and the two got into bed, although the woman later told investigators that no sexual act took place.
But before they could finish discussing the matter, Inspector Mukelebai got information from friends that another woman had entered her matrimonial home which forced the officer to abandon her point of duty, drove home in full police uniform while carrying an AK-47 rifle and stormed into the bedroom.
The four women forced the victim to strip naked while the officer pointed the firearm at her.
Out of fear, the woman removed all her clothes as the suspects reportedly recorded the ordeal on a mobile phone.
The young lady was flogged and sustained bruises on both thighs. She also developed injuries on her back and had general body pains before she was taken for medical treatment.
Inspector Mukelebai, 40, a Protective Unit officer at Nakonde Police Station, has since been arrested together with Judith Nangoi, 42, Lister Nachamba, 38, and Mervis Nakamba, 26.
As investigations continue, the four remain in police custody facing assault occasioning bodily harm and a potential cyber crime charge.
