MAN ARRESTED OVER TIKTOK VIDEO INSULTING PRESIDENT

The Zambia Police Service has arrested and charged a 38-year-old man from Mansa District for allegedly har@ssing the Republican President, Hakainde Hichilema, through content circulated on social media.

Police identified the suspect as Kennedy Mwansa, of Musaila Junction in Mansa District, who is a tailor operating in the area.

Zambia Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Timothy Malumo said Mr. Mwansa had been charged with harassment using electronic gadgets, contrary to Section 22(1) of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025.

Mr Malumo said the matter came to the attention of Mansa Central Police Station on September 9, 2026, after information was received that a video clip was circulating on TikTok in which President Hichilema was allegedly insulted using indecent language.

"Following swift investigations and analysis of the video clip, Police identified and apprehended the suspect," Mr Malumo said.

He said police had also recovered and secured a mobile phone allegedly used to record and upload the video as an exhibit.

Mr. Mwansa is currently in police custody pending court appearance.

Mr Malumo has since cautioned members of the public against abusing social media platforms to harass, insult, demean or infringe upon the rights and dignity of other people.

He urged members of the public to exercise responsibility and restraint when creating, sharing or disseminating content on digital platforms.

"The Service remains committed to enforcing the law firmly, fairly and professionally, while safeguarding the rights and dignity of all members of the public," Mr Malumo said.

GOVERNMENT CANCELS PASSPORTS OF FORMER AMBASSADOR EMMANUEL MWAMBA, SISHUWA AND OTHERS

Government has cancelled the passports of former Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Emmanuel Mwamba, and historian and academic Dr Sishuwa Sishuwa, citing security reasons.

Also affected are former Nkana MP Binwell Mpundu, former Petauke MP Emmanuel Jay Banda, former State House Special Assistant Kaizer Zulu, and blogger Lillian Mutambo.

The cancellations come amid heightened political tensions following the 2026 general elections.
