Did you know there is a difference between a stray & a feral?
🐈 A stray cat is typically a cat who lived indoors and/or was socialised to people at some point in its life, but has left or lost its home, or was abandoned and no longer has regular human contact
🐈 A feral cat is an unsocialised outdoor cat who has either never had any physical contact with humans, or human contact has diminished over enough time that the cat is no longer accustomed to touch.

How we define the cat that keeps turning up on your property determines how we proceed with trapping that cat. If you have any questions or need advice on the strays or ferals in your area please contact us we are always happy to help!

Some of this weeks’ TNR!

This weeks’ TNR & Sterilisations :

An unexpectedly busy week this week for the team. Despite the public holiday we managed to trap 22 cats from 8 different locations.

Katie TNR’d a female from Monavale, a male from Parktown and a male and a female with 3 young kittens from Bluffhill. She also TNR’d 2 females and a male from Ridgeview. One female was pregnant but successfully spayed.

Lorna TNR’d a female from Kensington - she decided to uplift her remaining 3 healthy kittens as 1 had been attacked by an aggressive cat in the area leading to irreversible spinal damage. Unfortunately this kitten had to be humanely euthanised - a decision we never take lightly.

Lorna also TNR’d a female and 2 males from Highlands, and a female and her 4 kittens from a church in the Avenues. The mumma cat was back in heat again, so very good timing!! Lorna and Katie teamed up to trap another 6 cats from Belgravia - 2 young females and 4 males.

The team also assisted 2 owners sterilise their 2 females - one from Concession and one from Mount Pleasant - bringing our total for this week to 24!

Total sterilised to date is now 3,954

We had 5 kittens enter our foster system in August - 3 of which were found at a stables - there was no sign of mum and the kittens were in visible distress. A single male kitten also came to us from Greystone Park after being found all alone in someone’s yard - crying from hunger.

The girls also uplifted a kitten from the commercial farm they were trapping at. He was visibly dirty, malnourished and needed some TLC.

Four different families adopted from us during August. One family took all 3 babies from one litter that were raised from 10 days old - we are so incredibly grateful to them for wanting to keep these bonded babies together. Two other families also adopted a pair each - which we always recommend. And a very kind family adopted the kitten who was found with glue all over her body - she is now looking absolutely beautiful.

We can’t begin to express how much it means to us when people open their hearts and homes to rescue kittens - not only from our system but also the other animal welfare organisations in Harare and beyond. When you adopt you are saving more lives than you think - not only do you save the lives of the animals you adopt but also the ones who can now take their place and be helped and rehabilitated back to health. So thank you!!

This weeks’ TNR :

A busy week this week with 19 cats trapped from 6 different locations. The biggest colony this week was a colony of 10 from a farm in Ruwa - 6 females (2 pregnant) and 4 males.

The girls also TNR’d 4 new females (2 pregnant) from a colony in Belvedere - they had been working for a while to TNR this colony which spans 4 separate properties - 3 of which they covered a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully the team have now TNR’d the last of the cats but they will keep in touch with the clients over the next few weeks.

Lorna also TNR’d a male from Vainona and a female from Hillside. Katie TNR’d a female from Alex park and 2 males from Mabelreign.

Total TNR’d to date - 3,930
