This week, we spotlight Mrs. Patience Mashaire Marwiro, Managing Director of Emeritus International Reinsurance Company Botswana, a distinguished insurance executive whose leadership has made a lasting impact on the insurance and reinsurance industry across Southern Africa.

With over 25 years of industry experience, including more than 20 years in executive leadership, Patience has built expertise in reinsurance, underwriting, operations, risk management, compliance, and strategic business leadership. She established Emeritus Botswana in 2010 and was promoted in 2023 to lead Emeritus International Reinsurance Company Botswana, where she continues to drive regional growth and operational excellence.

A Chartered Insurer, Fellow of the Insurance Institute of South Africa (FIISA), and holder of an MBA, MSc in Risk Management and Insurance, and ACII, she is widely respected for her technical expertise and strategic vision. She also serves as Vice President of the Insurance Institute of Botswana (IIB) and is a member of the Insurance Institute of Zimbabwe (IIZ) Academic Committee, contributing to the development of insurance professionals across the region.

A sought-after speaker at regional conferences, Patience actively supports industry advancement through organisations such as OESAI, AIO, and the Botswana Short-Term Insurance Underwriters Association. Beyond her professional achievements, she is passionate about mentoring and empowering young professionals, supporting charitable causes, and lives by strong Christian values.

Emeritus Malawi Empowers Women & Youth in Zomba!

Emeritus donated 100 beehives to women and youth in Zomba through the Chisomo and Ulumba cooperatives — a step toward building stronger, climate-resilient communities.

Climate change is real, and through our reinsurance work we've witnessed its devastating toll: destruction, food and water insecurity, displacement, and loss of life. Rural women are often hit the hardest, which is why we're implementing a project focusing on strengthening climate resilience and disaster risk management in Malawi, targeting small-scale women farmers and youths in rural areas.

The future of Africa’s development is being shaped through innovation, resilience, and strategic partnerships. We are proud to see industry leaders come together at the 52nd Conference and Annual General Assembly of the African Insurance Organisation to explore how insurance can unlock sustainable growth, strengthen economic infrastructure, and expand opportunities across the continent.
