Government officials, lecturers and parents today bid farewell to 30 Mutare Polytechnic students — 20 males and 10 females — who are set to travel to China for a one-year study programme at Guangdong Polytechnic of Water Resources and Electrical Engineering.

The students, who are pursuing Electrical Engineering and Water Resources studies, were urged to maintain discipline, uphold unity and remain focused on their education throughout their stay in China

Mutare Polytechnic Strengthens Integrity and Good Governance

Mutare Polytechnic staff participated in an Integrity Pledge signing ceremony conducted in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) on 14 July 2026.

The programme reaffirmed commitment to ethical conduct, transparency, accountability, and professionalism in public service. Staff pledged to uphold integrity in their daily responsibilities and to contribute to a culture of honesty and good governance.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mutare Polytechnic Principal Ms. Poniso Watema highlighted the importance of integrity in building a strong institution, stating:

"Integrity is not merely about complying with rules when others are watching. It is about consistently doing what is right, even when no one is watching."

She encouraged all staff members to become ambassadors of integrity and to help build an institution founded on honesty, transparency, accountability, and excellence.

At Mutare Polytechnic, we remain committed to building an institution founded on integrity, excellence, and responsible leadership.

Mutare Polytechnic bids farewell to Visiting Chinese Lecturers

Mutare Polytechnic held a farewell ceremony for the visiting Chinese lecturers from the Guangdong Polytechnic of Water Resources and Electrical Engineering (GPWE), Professor Lin Han and Ms. Liu Shuyi.

During their visit, 20 lecturers from the Water Resources and Electrical Engineering Departments successfully completed the Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme and were awarded certificates.

Chinese Lecturers Return to Mutare Polytechnic

Mutare Polytechnic is proud to host two lecturers from the Guangdong Polytechnic of Water Resources and Electrical Engineering (GPWE) for a Training of Trainers programme running from 3 to 13 July 2026.
Professor Lin Han, a specialist in Electrical Engineering, and Ms Liu Shuyi, a Water Engineering expert, will be working closely with twenty lecturers from the Water Resources and Electrical departments to enhance their instructional capacities and technical expertise.
This marks the second time such an exchange has taken place, following a successful visit by another pair of lecturers last year. The programme forms part of an ongoing knowledge exchange partnership between the two institutions, reinforcing Mutare Polytechnic's commitment to continuous staff development and international collaboration.

Mutare Polytechnic’s Kukudzarema Strikes Gold in Chess at CUCSA Games

GABORONE, Botswana — Mutare Polytechnic National Certificate in Diesel Plant Fitting student Shepard Kukudzarema has put his institution and Zimbabwe on the map after winning gold in the men’s chess category at the Confederation of University and Colleges Sports Associations (CUCSA) Games in Gaborone, Botswana.

The games are running from 29 June – 04 July 2026.

Kukudzarema dominated throughout the tournament, finishing unbeaten against a strong field of university and college players from across the Southern African region. His gold medal marks Mutare Poly’s first individual CUCSA gold in over a decade.

“I’m still processing it,” said Kukudzarema after his final match.
“Coming here, my goal was to make Mutare Polytechnic and Zimbabwe proud. Every game I played was for the students back home, for my lecturers, and for my country. This gold shows that talent from Mutare Polytechnic can compete and win at the highest level. CUCSA was tough, but preparation and belief carried me through," Kukudzarema said.

The victory follows months of intensive training.

Mutare Polytechnic Chess Coach,Madla Ndaba said the build-up was deliberate and focused.
“Shepard came into camp with the right mindset. We worked on opening theory, endgame precision, and mental conditioning because CUCSA pressure is real,” Ndaba said.

“To see him convert that work into gold is special. This victory is not just his. It belongs to Mutare Polytechnic, Zimbabwe and to every young player in Zimbabwe who now knows it’s possible,” Ndaba said.

Kukudzarema is also the reigning 2026 Technical Education Sports, Arts and Recreation (TESAR) and Zimbabwe Tertiary Sports (ZiTS)gold medallist, making the CUCSA title his third major chess championship this year.

Zimbabwe Duo Storm Into CUCSA Table Tennis Semi-Finals

Zimbabwe's Carrington Nourumba and Tapiwa Musarurwa, both representing Mutare Polytechnic, have booked their places in the semi-finals of the table tennis competition at the ongoing Confederation of Universities and College Sports Association (CUCSA) Games in Gaborone, Botswana.
The duo delivered impressive performances to keep Zimbabwe's medal hopes alive as the regional university and college sporting showcase continues.

CUCSA GAMES 2026 KICK OFF IN STYLE

GABORONE, Botswana - The 2026 Confederation of University and College Sports Associations (CUCSA) Games were officially declared open on 29 June 2026, igniting a week of fierce but friendly competition in Gaborone, Botswana.

The opening ceremony was a vibrant spectacle of unity and culture, as teams from eight Southern African Development Community(SADC) nations paraded into the arena.
The student-athletes brought the stadium to life, singing and dancing to their traditional songs, celebrating their shared passion for sport. Among the sea of participants were thirteen talented athletes from Mutare Polytechnic, proudly representing Zimbabwe alongside their compatriots.

The ceremony formally welcomed all delegations, setting the stage for an exciting week of competition across multiple sporting codes.

The participating nations are:

· Botswana (Hosts)
· Angola
· Eswatini
· Lesotho
· Malawi
· South Africa
· Zambia
· Zimbabwe

DAY 2 HIGHLIGHTS: ZIMBABWE CHESS TEAMS DOMINATE

Day two of the Games brought early success for Zimbabwe, particularly on the chessboard. The Zimbabwe Men’s Chess Team delivered a flawless performance, winning all five of their matches. Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Women’s Chess Team also impressed, securing a strong second-place finish.

Contributing to this stellar performance were students from Mutare Polytechnic, who played a vital role in mens' team success, showcasing the institution's growing reputation in regional university sports.

The competition continues as athletes vie for top honors in various disciplines.

Mutare Polytechnic welcomes NUST for a Quality Assurance Visit

Mutare Polytechnic hosted the Faculty of Civil and Water Engineering from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) for a two-day Quality Assurance Visit from 3 to 4 June 2026. The visit focuses on coursework moderation, curriculum review, and research project defenses by our Bachelor of Technology (Honours) students in Construction Engineering. Speaking at the event, Mutare Polytechnic Principal, Ms. Poniso Watema reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and the strong, fruitful partnership between Mutare Polytechnic and NUST.

" We wish all students and staff a productive and insightful engagement," said Ms Watema.
